About Tiffany Style

Tiffany style originated with Louis Comfort Tiffany, son of Tiffany and Company founder, Charles Lewis Tiffany. Louis Comfort received formal art training and was an accomplished painter. In 1875 he became interested in glass making and after learning the craft he opened the Tiffany Glass Company in 1885. In 1902 the name was changed to Tiffany Studios. He became known for his stained glass lamps and windows. In 1893 he exhibited some of his lamps at the World's Fair in Chicago and at the 1900 World's Fair in Paris he won a gold medal for his stained glass windows. Louis Comfort Tiffany's fame spread and now the word "Tiffany" is synonymous with beautiful stained glass lamps, made by many manufacturers and artisans the world over.

Tiffany style lamps are timeless and many of their themes are taken from nature. They become the focal point of any room--like "jewelry for the home". Many of the designs feature flowers, for which the brilliantly colored art glass is perfect, especially when the lamp is lit. One famous design is the dragonfly, which can be found in several sizes and color themes of table lamps, hanging pendants, and ceiling lights. A recurrent theme is the peacock. The jewel-toned bird's feathers are a wonderful subject matter for Tiffany lamps. Another category is geometric designs. Various color combinations are used to provide Tiffany style lamps for the person who prefers something more simple.

There are some other types of lamps included in the Tiffany style--one example is blown glass lily lamps. These come in the form of table lamps, floor lamps, and chandeliers. Handel style lamps have hand-painted glass shades for a soft artistic look. Original Tiffany lamps had detailed sculpted bronze bases and today some reproductions of those Louis Comfort Tiffany lamps are available. Most bases today, however, are made of iron, brass, or other metals. The glass shades today are made in the same way as the originals were, with the copperfoil method.

Now so much more than just lamps are available. Tiffany style comes in table and floor lamps, chandeliers, pendants, pool table lights, wall sconces, ceiling lights, fan lights, vanity lights, mirrors, fireplace screens, and of course, beautiful stained glass windows.

PYTs flocked to the ERDEM x H&M Fashion Show held on Wednesday (October 18) in LA—and were naturally attired in the highly anticipated, flower-forward collaboration.

Zendaya: The one thing I would have changed about Zendaya’s vintage-mod, ladylike statement would be her footwear, as the light pumps seemed at a disconnect from the darker floral palette of the skirt. Otherwise, she was completely selling the retro vibe of the look–from bouffant hair to ankles.

Kirsten Dunst: Riffing on the silk pyjama trend, Kirsten’s pair of loungewear-influenced separates were bolstered by her heels and embellished handbag.

Kate Bosworth: I like how this printed frock celebrated the height of romantic femininity whilst also echoing Kate’s bohemian-loving side.

Hammer Museum Gala In The Garden

The Hammer Museum Gala in the Garden was hosted on Saturday (October 14) in LA, with a crush of beauties in attendance—and all outfitted in one of the night’s leading supporters, Bottega Veneta.

Emmy Rossum: Looking nearly impossibly elegant, Emmy stunned in a Fall 2017 gown that beautifully shimmered with its gunmetal metallic plisse design. I love how her red lip and refined waves imbued another element of classic allure to the striking look.

Priyanka Chopra: I liked the softer palette of this Bottega Veneta Spring 2018 ensemble, but the creamy-white pumps let the look down.

Sarah Jessica Parker: This Resort 2018 gown was a rather subdued look for the likes of SJP.

Ana de Armas In Chanel – ‘Blade Runner 2049’ London Photocall

As Ana de Armas continues the promo tour for ‘Blade Runner 2049,’ her next stop was the London photocall on Thursday (September 21).

She’s gravitated towards shine and shimmer, and today it was all about the gleam of metallics, as she again opted for a Chanel Fall 2017 ensemble as she did in Paris.

As was suiting to the film, she took the runway’s ladylike quirk down a more edgy-forward route by styling the jacket and skirt with Ara Vartanian jewellery and Christian Louboutin ‘Big Lips’ black suede thigh-high boots.

I would have initially said that her hair should have likewise featured a sleeker updo, but the loose waves do add a note of romantic femininity to the look.

Ana de Armas In Chanel – ‘Blade Runner 2049’ Paris Photocall

Ana De Armas was joined by her co-stars Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford for the ‘Blade runner 2049’ photocall at Hotel Le Bristol today (September 20) in Paris, France.

The magpie within Ana couldn’t resist another sparkling look, this time from Chanel’s Fall 2017 collection.

I had this in my wish list for Tilda Swinton, however, I do love the relaxed vibe Ana brings to the look, along with the girlishness her high ponytail imbues.

Shimmering from head-to-toe, Ana completed her look with Stuart Weitzman ‘Nudist’ sandals.

Ana de Armas In Mary Katrantzou – ‘Blade Runner 2049’ Madrid Photocall

While co-star Sylvia Hoeks was in Rome, Ana de Armas was in Madrid on Tuesday (September 19) at the ‘Blade Runner 2049’ photocall alongside Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford.

The Cuban actress donned a Mary Katrantzou Fall 2017 dress. The exaggerated shoulders, pleated peplum detail and layered look had futuristic leanings but the designer’s signature prints were a wiser alternative to the clichéd metallics.

Champagne gold Casadei pumps added a sweetness to the sharp tailoring above.

Critics might find the peplum and puffed shoulders to be dated, but the proportion of them and the juxtaposition of patterns makes them feel modern for me.

Ana de Armas In Miu Miu – Blade Runner 2049’ Berlin Screening

Bringing the flash of sequins to the light of day, Ana de Armas was at the Berlin screening of ‘Blade Runner 2049’ on Sunday (September 17).

Miu Miu will never be faulted for not using embellishment to its full advantage.

But the main issue I have with this high-shine look from the label is in its proportions.

The tunic top seemed to fall a bit too short on Ana whilst the trousers were too long—all of which created an awkward effect that didn’t flatter as much as it could have.

Would you agree?
